Sponsorship Of Communities League Cup To Continue
The Scottish Government is renewing its sponsorship of this year's Scottish Communities League Cup, with funding support of �1.7 million.   And �500,000 of the money will come from the hugely successful Cashback for Communities programme - seizing ill-gotten gains from criminals and investing it to help young people.

Eight area sports councils administer a scheme of sports grants on behalf of The Highland Council.   The Council wants to encourage organisations and individuals to join and take an active part in their local sports council and grants are usually only available for affiliated and paid-up sports council members.

Following the visit of two Martial Arts Grand Masters to Caithness, local man Vince Tait has been graded to 5th Dan Master.   KSD Martial Arts hosted the annual Northern Budo Alliance Bushi seminar in Wick where instruction was given by Soke Gunter Bauer, 10th Dan Hapkido (Grand Master), Soke Mark Kemp, 10th Dan Kempo JuJitsu (Grand Master), along with Kyoshi Neil Hourston 7th Dan (Master).

Two young men from Caithness have a number of "moments to shine" over the next few days.   Andrew Sinclair (right) and Louis Mackinnon, both from Wick, attended the Olympic Media Briefing at Inverness today (Thursday 7th June 2012) and have been invited to take part in the BBC's Question Time, which is being held at Inverness tonight (Thursday 7th June 2012).

Caithness Creates Its Own Olympic Torch Relay
From Shaun Henderson Acting Head Teacher Castletown Primary School Caithness As you know, the actual Olympic Torch isn't going to John O'Groats so we've decided to take our own one there (as you might have read in the Groat a few weeks ago).   Our Olympic Relay is going to take place on Friday 22nd June.

Duncraig Educational Trust Open For 2012 Applications
The Duncraig Educational Trust is open now for funding applications for grants up to �1000.   Councillor Bill Fernie, chairman of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee of Highland Council who also sat on the group making the awards said," The Duncraig Trust has already helped with funding for a wide range of young people and in 2012 the emphasis will be on young folk looking to improve their performances towards the Commonwelath Games but this will not preclude other areas completely so it is well worth looking at the criteria to see if you qualify to apply." The Duncraig Educational Trust Scheme can offer financial assistance to young Highland people who can meet the essential criteria for the scheme.

National Performance Centre For Sport
Shona Robison this week kicked off plans to deliver Scotland's first National Performance Centre for sport.   The Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport announced that up to �25 million from the Scottish Government's Young Scots Fund would be ploughed into the initiative.

Adventure Activities Consultation
A consultation on the development of a safety system for adventure activities in Scotland has been launched by the Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, Shona Robison.   The Scottish Government is considering the best way forward for Scotland in light of the UK Government's plan to replace the statutory Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) with a new voluntary code of practice.
