Caithness Swimmers at North Sprints

Saturday saw the fastest swimmers from throughout the North of Scotland gather at the Aquadome in Inverness for the North District Sprints. The events over 50m for the four individual strokes and 100 metres for the Individual medley took the format of heats with a final contested by the fastest eight swimmers.

To meet the qualifying times for this event is an achievement in itself and Wick had four swimmers entered. Unfortunately prior to the competition Ashley Bartholomew had to withdraw due to injury.

In the 13/14 age group Fraser Tait had an extremely busy day taking part in 8 races over the day. In the morning Fraser swam close to his personal best in his Breaststroke and achieved a pb in his front crawl heat to finish 6th and 7th respectively to reach both finals. In the finals at the end of the first session he swam two more pb's to finish 4th in the breast stroke and 6th for front crawl.

In the afternoon Fraser had pb's in both his 100IM and Butterfly without reaching the final. His final event was back stroke and after swimming a pb in the heats he qualified in 4th place. In the final Fraser again swam another pb to finish in 4th place. No medals but an excellent performance throughout the day against very tough competition.

Both Eve Strachan and Stephanie Webster were competing in the 15 and over age group. Whilst neither girl reached a final both were swimming competitively in all their events. Stephanie took part in four races and was close to her personal best in most of these strokes whilst Eve took part in three events and was delighted to get two personal bests including over 2 seconds off her 100IM time.
