Call for Highland Baton Bearers

12th November 2013

The Queen's Baton Relay will officially be celebrated in The Highlands on Friday 11th July 2014, but this will not be the only day of activity in the region. There is an opportunity for over 100 local people to carry the baton in approximately 15 different towns across the Highlands so organisers are spreading the message that "The Queen's Baton Relay is 'relay, relay' coming to a town near you" to encourage local communities to get involved and nominate local baton bearers

On Friday 11th July the Queen's Baton Relay will arrive on the mainland from Orkney, then spend a full day visiting towns and communities in the region as it travels southwards. It will then rest overnight and depart on Saturday 12th July 2014. Over this period the baton will transit the full length of The Highlands from North to South and it will visit numerous towns en-route.

In addition to this the Queen's Baton Relay will also stop to visit communities in in the East as it travels from Moray to Perth and Kinross on Friday 4th July 2014, and again will visit villages in the West as it travels from The Western Isles to Orkney by road and ferry on Wednesday 9th July 2014.

The application process closes on the 22nd November 2013 so anyone wishing to apply should contact the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games website www.glasgow2014.com
