One of the newest clubs in Caithness has got off to a great start.

Wick Coastal Rowing club has bounded on to the stage in the latter half of 2012. Due to an enthusiastic committee they have set up the club aims and a new web site. They have successfully applied for range of funding and been given the use of the workshop at the Wellington Centre by Highland council to construct their boats in.

Everyone seems to be getting behind the effort to put Wick on the map for coastal rowing to join other clubs recently formed around the Scottish coast. Reflecting the sea heritage of Wick the club seem to have tapped into local feeling that this is the right thing for a port with a long maritime history to get involved in.

The club aim to build their own boats and race them at events around the coast as well as inviting other clubs to Caithness for races. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16. Formally constituted groups with younger members will be welcomed as group members.

The clock is ticking and the club aim to have their first boat built and ready to race at a Regatta in Wick in June 2013.

If you would like to get involved or support the club in any way take a look at the web site.

This club has already built momentum to their activities and they should do well in the future.
