The McBeath’s Jeweller’s County Snooker Singles got under way on Saturday, Mark Mackay looking to regain the title he won last March in the Viewfirth against James Risbridger. This year’s championship was played in the Royal British Legion and the Thurso Club. Mark got off to a good start making short work of Brian Malley beating him 3 – 0.
Meanwhile losing semi-finalist from last year Derek Johnston overcame an ex-county champion John McKie 3 – 1.
Ray Cormack cruised through to the next round after beating the black ball pool champion Tam Sutherland 3 – 0 .Charlie Farqhuar dislodged Ray in the next round coming back from 2-1 down to beat him 3 – 2.
Mark Mackay continued a good run to the final without dropping a frame to setup a mouthwatering final against his county doubles partner Derek Johnston.
Derek prevailed against Raymond Taylor in the quarter – finals 3 – 0 .He then went on to beat Charlie Farqhuar 3 – 1. Mark got off to a great start in the final going 2 – 0 up in half an hour, but Derek had other plans. He drew the scores level at 2 – 2.
Derek then took the next two frames in the best of seven match to become the new Mcbeath’s Jeweller’s County Snooker Champion 2007.
