The 2007 season kicked of on Sunday the 22nd April at the Borgie Motocross track to the west of Bettyhill. A very good turnout of new & old members turned up to race at the well-prepared venue and they all produced some very exciting racing throughout all the classes.

The sun shone as the starting elastic triggered to allow the first race of the season to get underway and it was the “less than 100cc” Junior Quad class that took to the track, Scot Gray from Bettyhill won 3 of the 4 races but Jack Duffy from Wick won Race 2 to prevent Scot from making it 4 from 4.

Next up was the “less than 100cc” Auto class and it was good to see the boys having female company in this class, Ewan Gordon from Helmsdale and Arran Manson from Scrabster were joined on the line by sisters Bridie & Georgia Nicholson from Scotscalder. Newcomer Ewan won the class followed by Georgia, Bridie & Arran.

The Senior Quad class took to the track next and as usual this was the class that provided the “nose-to-tail” racing that all the spectators love to witness, the lads all produced really good performances and their cornering abilities got better and better as the day went on, the class was won by Ryan Reid from Castletown, a tie between James Mackay from Bettyhill & Daniel Kirk from Castletown just proved how close the racing was.

Next onto the track were the 65cc & 85cc Small wheel / Big wheel classes, the girls were in attendance again as Kylie Shaw from Rogart raced in the 65cc class alongside Morgan Robertson from Lyth.
Lewis Kirk from Castletown was the sole entrant in the small wheel class but did very well up against the lads in the big wheel class. Jake Anderson from Scrabster led the Big wheel class after the first 3 races but in Race 4 an awkward landing from the tabletop ended his days racing with a broken leg. Some very close racing between Lewis O’Brien from Strathnaver, Sam Wordingham from Armadale & newcomer Kyle Angus from Mey took place throughout the day, a special mention must go the Kyle who performed very well in his first visit to the track.

The 125cc Schoolboy class was the biggest on the day, racing alongside Adult riders all of the younger lads gave the Adults something to think about over the forthcoming season!!
