The team members in the group photo from left to right are: Euan Bremner, Ailsa Coulden-Smith, Nicola Gray, Ross Sinclair, Ross Mackay, Bruce Cameron, Ryan Cameron and Martin Falconer.   North Highland Young Engineers design, build and race electric cars in the Greenpower Challenge www.greenpower.co.uk Greenpower was started 14 years ago in Southern England but was only introduced to Scotland four years ago, in that short time NHYE have firmly established themselves as the dominant Scottish team and are now widely acknowledged as being one of the top teams anywhere in the UK; at the recent National Final held at Goodwood one of our cars finished in 3rd position.

Nine members of North Highland Young Engineers recently made the 1500 mile round trip to compete in the Grand Final of the Greenpower Challenge at Goodwood circuit in West Sussex.  The Greenpower Challenge is a rapidly growing competition in which young engineers design, build, then race electric cars; with the top teams producing cars that are amongst the most efficient vehicles to be found anywhere in the world.

New Legacy 2014 Fund Opens For Application
The £10 million Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund, part of the Scottish Government's Commonwealth Games Legacy 2014 programme, will give communities across Scotland more and better places to be active.   Grants between £10,000 and £100,000 are now available to help build or upgrade local facilities such as new bike or skate parks, outdoor adventure facilities, walking routes, or new projects within school estates.

Young people from across Caithness will be able to participate in the Wave North Festival near Thurso Harbour thanks to transportation arrangements made by council and youth service staff.   Following a conversation between High Life Highland's Youth Development Officer Keith Moncur and The Highland Council's Ward Manager for Caithness David Sutherland, two free buses have been laid on for the event, which is on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October.

Report and Photos Noel Donaldson THERE can be nothing more agonising for a team, defeated in a cup tie, to have to face a long trip home and the 100-mile trek north, on Saturday night, must have seemed even longer for the vanquished Academy.   The same would apply to their army of far-travelled fans and even the antidote of a dram or two, for some, would only dull the pain temporarily.7 There was doubtless a few sair heids as well as sair hearts this morning after the Scorries were dispatched from the North of Scotland Cup by a well-organised County outfit...the dream of winning the competition remaining as elusive as ever.

Change of venue for Thurso Kuk Sool Won
The Kuk Sool Won, Thurso school have changed venue.   From now on they will be meeting on Monday and Wednesday nights in the Boys Brigade Hall and Friday nights in the Scrabster Hall.

Saturday saw the fastest swimmers from throughout the North of Scotland gather at the Aquadome in Inverness for the North District Sprints.   The events over 50m for the four individual strokes and 100 metres for the Individual medley took the format of heats with a final contested by the fastest eight swimmers.

Thurso To Host Surfing Championships And Wave North Festival
The Highland Council is supporting the UK Pro Surfing Championships being held on the weekend of 27-28 October in Thurso.   The national surfing competition will merge with the Wave North Festival to create a weekend of action sports, live music and local Arts and Crafts activities.

The final Time Trial Rally of 2012 was held at Kames Motorsport Complex in Ayrshire on Sunday 16th September.   The Hamilton Optimum Training Kadett driven by Bill Hamilton and Navigated by Sara Hamilton was competing in Class 3, cars up to 2000cc.

Helping Young People Into Sport
New ways to increase physical activity levels in young people will be examined by the Scottish Government.   Sport Minister Shona Robison confirmed today that the Government will develop a Youth Sport Strategy to boost physical activity and participation in sport, for pre-school children to further and higher education students.

Half Million Boost For Grassroots Scottish Sport
After a sensational summer of sport, communities now have more reasons to get up, get active and get involved as the Big Lottery Fund announces a £500K boost for grassroots activity across Scotland.   Since its launch, 2014 Communities from the Big Lottery Fund has supported community clubs and teams awarding almost £3 million in grants.
