Posted By Bill Fernie For Brian Mackay Thurso FC have won their first trophy since 2004 beating Golspie Sutherland 4-2 in The SWL cup Final at Dudgeon Park, Brora on Saturday 10 February 2007, thanks to a Jamie MacKenzie double, Mark Nichol and Gavin Bremner. This is Thurso FC manager Ross Sutherland's first trophy since taking over as manager in 2005.
Due to Wick Academy being rescheduled to play their last match of the season away to Fort William on the day of the Thurso FC Sports Dinner the Academy can no longer take their 10 places at the event. Anyone interested in buying a place or places may contact Thurso FC or Wick Academy for information.
Following on from their successful season in the North Caledonian League which they won, along with the Morris Newton Cup and the Football Times Cup, Thurso FC swept the board with the awards at the Annual League Dinner. Kevin Morris was joint top goalscorer (with Scott McKain of Dornoch FC) in the League with 16 goals from 18 games.
Just received news that Thurso F.C have won through to their 2nd cup final of the season by defeating Golspie Sutherland 3-2 after extra time in The Football Times Cup Semi-Final this afternoon. The goals came from Brian Gray (pen), Nigel MacKenzie and Phillip Makhouli scoring the winner in extra time.
Thurso F.C start the defence of their league title with a tricky away game at Migdale against Bonar Bridge. Caithness neighbours Halkirk United are looking for a better season this year when they entertain Dornoch in their opening fixture of the new season.
A warm sunny day in Dornoch greeted the Thurso squad from the long trip from The North on a dry, hard and bumpy playing surface. Thurso added Martin Rutherford to the squad from last week, who took a place on the bench alongside Green and Makhouli.
