With only two games remaining in the Wick & District Pool League, the division two title race is hotting up with four teams still in with a chance of finishing in top spot.

An inspired captains performance by Graham Harper played a key part in the Francis Street Clubs 9-3 win over top side Queens on Monday night. Wins from Stewart Steven, Brian Munro and Michael Innes helped the club side go 3-0 ahead, before a fantastic clearance by Jim Bain pulled one back for the Queens.

Superb finishing by Harper and Ricky Hernandez saw the FSC stretch their lead against the league leaders to 5-1. The Queens took the next two frames to reduce the deficit to 5-3, but an outstanding total clearance by Harper rounded off his man of the match performance as the club side took the remaining frames for a convincing victory. The Seaforth Club are now only two points adrift of top spot, as they put in their best performance of the season to beat Mountain Dew 8-4. Craig Durrand and Donald Coghill were the key players for the Seaforth Club in this win, and are proving to be a formidable partnership as they are undefeated in doubles play this season.

Two evenly matched teams in Crown2 and Harpers fought out a 6-6 draw, and the Bayview2 versus Retro2 match has been postponed until later in the week. In division one it was Retro1 who impressed the most as they became the first team to defeat Camps2 this season. Some impressive finishing by Greg Thomson and Alan Steven helped the Retro side take a 2-0 lead before Derek Johnston pulled one back for Camps2. Johnny Mackay and James Ross played some nice pool to stretch the Retro's lead to 4-1, before Alec Thomson reduced the deficit to 4-2. Retro1 took the first two doubles frames to lead 6-2 but Camps2 fought back to 6-4 as they tried their hardest to salvage a point. Mackay and Tam Sutherland combined well in the next doubles frame and clinched the three points for Retro. Crown1 remain at the top of division one thanks to as comfortable 9-3 victory over Camps1. Alan Larnach and William Little were the standout performers for Crown1, winning all of their games.

George Zindilis' Commercial side made a fantastic comeback on Monday night against Bayview1 in the Lybster derby match. Bayview1 seemed to be coasting to victory as they took a commanding 5-1 lead, with Ronnie Simpson in great form & knocking in a fabulous total clearance. The Commercial showed great team spirit to fight back and earn a 6-6 draw, helped by a great 8-ball clearance by Robert MacLeod and a man of the match performance by Kevin Cameron who won all of his games.

Greg Simpson's Sinclair Bay have come along way this season, after fighting off relegation last season they are now serious title contenders. An impressive 8-4 win against Ryan Cook's Blackstairs moves the Keiss side into second place and only two points behind leaders Crown1.
