Wick & District Pool League
5th February 2013
Alan Larnach's Crown1 team produced an outstanding performance in week 11 of the Wick & District Pool League as they knocked Bayview1 off top spot with a 7-4 win. Crown1 have improved dramatically this season with every member of their team playing some exceptional pool. Neither team could be separated in the early stages as the match stood at four frames each. Crown1 took the lead at 5-4 and secured a vital two points in the next frame thanks to a fabulous 5 ball pressure clearance from former captains cup winner Colin Banks.
Bruce Honeyman's Camps2 side took full advantage of the Lybster teams defeat to go top of the league on frame difference, as they swept aside The Mountain Dew with an 8-3 win. A great team performance saw the defending champions cruise to an 8-0 lead, but the Mountain Dew side played very well to win the last three frames.
Ryan Cook's Blackstairs2 side move up to fourth in the league after a fine display earned them an 8-3 win over Suzanne Carter's Camps2 team. Cook won the opening frame before Donald Manson leveled the match at 1-1. Blackstairs2 then took complete control of the match, racing into a 5-1 lead. Manson and Ciaran Duffy played well in their doubles to pull one back, but their attempted comeback was quickly halted as Alan Forbes put in a great performance to help his side win the 2 points.
Craig Durrand's Seaforth Club side move into the top 7 after a great team performance saw them defeat Tam Sutherland's Blackstairs1 team 9-2. George Smith's fantastic potting ability helped the club side off to a great start, before Durrand cleared the table in style for a 2-0 lead. Kevin Beales and David Malcolm done well to win the next two frames for a 4-0 lead, then Jamie Mcphee pulled one back for the Blackstairs. Any idea's of a comeback were stopped by a fine performance from Nathan Lightley to make it 5-1. Smith then produced another good display of pool as helped secure his side the points.
The Queens lost out again this week as a very close match ended in a 6-5 win for Crown2. Sinclair Bay remain on good form as they quickly ran out 9-2 winners over Bayview2. The Commercial remain in the fight for a top 7 place as they defeated Harper's 8-3. Willie Bain was on top form once again for the Lybster side.
Camps2, Bayview1 and Crown1 sit joint top of the table on the same points, but the Camps team are 20 frames better off on frame difference. All three teams will meet each other again once the league splits into two divisions. Bayview1 & Crown1 are searching for their first league title, while Camps2 have their sights firmly fixed on a seventh championship.
