Scottish Golf Open Coming To The Highlands

25th January 2011

Convener welcomes Scottish Open to the Highlands.

The Convener of The Highland Council, Councillor Sandy Park has warmly welcomed the news that Castle Stuart Golf Course, near Inverness, is going to host the Barclays Scottish Open golf tournament in July.

He said: "This is great news for golf and sports fans in the North of Scotland, who will get the chance to see the world's leading players playing on the one best new links courses in the world.

"What a chance to showcase what the Highlands has to offer to a world wide audience.

"The Council has been helping the bid and we are very much looking forward to playing our part in making this a big success. The area is gaining a really strong reputation for organising large scale events and I have no doubt we will be up for the challenge. I have also no doubt that the viewing public will respond.

Estimates are that over £5million each year will go into the Highland economy as a result of the open golf championship. The open will come to the area for three years under the agreemtn signed.

Castle Stuart golf course was voted best new course in 2009 by Golf Magazine USA.
