Caithness Pupils Results Schools Swimming Championships In Glasgow

Recently, eight pupils from Caithness competed in the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships in Tollcross Glasgow. Only swimmers who had first qualified in their Regional Events attended. The Highland Event had been held in Inverness last November. Four pupils from Hillhead Primary, Rhona Plowman, Lauren Sinclair, Rachel Munro & Erin Mackay & four from Thurso High, Craig Spargo, Ryan Sutherland, Ashley Mackenzie & Martin Cowie.
Martin competed in the boys 15/16 100m Breast, heats, achieving a time of 01:21.69, Lauren swam the girls 12 & under 50m Breast, heats, achieving a time of 43.84 & 16th place.
Ashley swam in the girls 15/16 100m Breast coming in 15th with a time of 01:29.21. Ryan competed in the boys 15/16 100m Back, coming in 13th with a time of 01:10.24. Rachel swam in the girls 12 & under 50m Free. She achieved 8th in the heats with a time of 33.18. Rachel went on to improve to 7th place in the finals with a time of 33.23.
All four Hillhead girls formed the girls relay team, coming in 6th. Rhona swam in the girls 12 & under 50m Back, achieving 5th place in the heats with a time of 37.83 & also improving to 4th place in the final with a time of 37.36, just outside the medal positions.
Craig swam the boys 13/14 100m Fly, achieving 2nd place in the heats with a time of 01:10.01. In the finals he won bronze medal position with a time of 01:10.06. The Silver medal went to Alisdair Stirling of Mearns Castle, Renfrewshire & gold to Chris Stirling from Old Macher Academy, Grampian.
