Sonas Slàinte - Goireas Ùr Slàinte Is Sunnd Airson Foghlam Tron Ghàidhlig - New Gaelic Medium health and well-being resource - Sonas Slàinte
23rd November 2020
Tha Sgioba Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd fìor thoilichte Sonas Slàinte - goireas ùr slàinte is sunnd airson Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig - a chur air bhog aig Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis, air Diluain 23 dhen t-Samhain.
Tha Sonas Slàinte a' gabhail a-steach bhidiothan is dùbhlain a rinn FC Sonas le coimisean bho Sgioba Gàidhlig na Comhairle gus goireas a bharrachd a chruthachadh do thidsearan ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig.
Tha na bhidiothan a' coimhead air slàinte is sunnd, a’ cleachdadh ball-coise mar dhòigh air ceangal a thogail le sgoilearan ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig. Tha iad a’ còmhdach rudan a leithid slàinte chorporra, mathas faireachail, dòigh-ithe is beathachadh – uile tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig.
Thuirt an Comhairliche Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Comataidh Gàidhlig na Comhairle: "’S e iomairt air leth a tha seo oir tha e cudromach gun toir sinn aire is taic do shlàinte is sunnd mar phàirt de shlàinte inntinn is chorporra dhaoine òga. Tha an goireas air a lìbhrigeadh sa Ghàidhlig agus tha seo cho cudromach, gu h-àraid seach gu bheil e a’ toirt cothrom a’ Ghàidhlig a chleachdadh taobh a-muigh suidheachadh foirmeil a’ chlasa."
Lean e air adhart, "Tha a’ Chomhairle gu mòr airson goireasan is iomairtean a leasachadh gus am bi barrachd chleasan spòrs ann far a bheilear a’ cleachdadh na Gàidhlig ann an suidheachadh neo-fhoirmeil agus ann an àrainneachd nàdarra, làitheil. Tha seo cuideachd a’ ceangal ris na cùisean nàiseanta a tha mu choinneamh dhaoine òga ri linn a’ ghalar mhòr-sgaoilte. Bu toil leam cuideachd taing a thoirt do Bhòrd na Gàidhlig airson an taic ionmhasail agus gu dearbh dhan Chomhairle fhèin airson taic is stiùir a thoirt dhan phròiseact innleachdach seo.
“Tha na buannachdan slàinte is sunnd a tha an lùib eacarsaich is cluiche air a’ bhlàr a-muigh gu math aithnichte, agus tha na bhidiothan seo a’ tabhann dòigh innleachdach is ghnìomhach gus sgoilearan a chom-pàirteachadh. Tha seo gu h-àraid feumail ri linn Covid-19 seach gu bheil e a’ toirt goireas Gàidhlig a bharrachd do thidsearan Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig."
Tha bhidiothan Sonas Slàinte a’ togail air soirbheas sreath de bhidiothan a rinn FC Sonas roimhe, nuair a fhuair iad coimisean bho Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd gus sia bhidiothan seachdaineach a chruthachadh tron ghlasadh-sluaigh.
Chaidh na bhidiothan a sgaoileadh gu 22 sgoil air feadh sgìre na Gàidhealtachd agus bha iad a’ toirt seachad dùbhlan ball-coise seachdaineach a dh’fhaodadh an teaghlach gu lèir a dhèanamh. Cha robh acfhainn a dhìth orra ach dìreach ball-coise agus rudan àbhaisteach a bhiodh mun taigh co-dhiù.
Às dèidh bhidiothan a’ ghlasadh-sluaigh, chùm FC Sonas a’ chiad champa ball-coise aca airson Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig air a’ bhlàr a-muigh. Chaidh an campa, a bha a’ leantainn stiùiridhean Comann Ball-coise na h-Alba agus stiùiridhean an Riaghaltais, a chumail tro shaor-làithean na sgoile eadar an 19–21 Dàmhair ann am Pàirc a’ Bhucht ann an Inbhir Nis.
Thuirt Calum Fearghastan, stèidheadair FC Sonas: “Tha sinn cho toilichte Sonas Slàinte a chur air bhog. Tha an goireas ùr slàinte is sunnd seo a’ cleachdadh ball-coise mar dhòigh air sgoilearan ann am Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig a thoirt an lùib dòigh-bheath fhallain. Tha sinn a’ faireachdainn gu bheil e gu sònraichte cudromach san latha a th’ ann a bhith a’ coimhead às dèidh slàinte inntinn is chorporra agus tha sinn an dòchas gum bi an goireas ùr seo feumail do sgoiltean Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig air feadh na Gàidhealtachd.”
Thuirt Daibhidh Boag, Stiùiriche Dealbhadh Cànain agus Leasachaidhean Coimhearsnachd: “Tha Bòrd na Gàidhlig fìor thoilichte taic a chur ri FC Sonas uair eile tron mhaoineachadh againn do Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd. A bharrachd air na buaidhean matha slàinte is sunnd, bidh na bhidiothan nan goireas luachmhor do dhaoine òga, gam brosnachadh gus a’ Ghàidhlig a chleachdadh nas trice tro chom-pàirteachas ann an spòrs, agus tro sin anns na dachannan is anns na coimhearsnachdan aca cuideachd.”
New Gaelic Medium health and well-being resource - Sonas Slàinte.
Highland Council’s Gaelic Team are delighted to host the official launch of the new Gaelic Medium health and wellbeing resource Sonas Slàinte, on Monday 23 November at Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis.
Sonas Slàinte features videos and challenges produced by FC Sonas who were commissioned by the Council’s Gaelic Team to provide an additional resource for Gaelic Medium teachers.
The videos look at health and well-being using football as a means to engage Gaelic Medium pupils; they cover aspects such as physical health, emotional well-being, diet and nutrition, all through the medium of Gaelic.
Councillor Calum Munro, Chair of the Council’s Gaelic Committee said “This is a fantastic initiative as health and well-being is a vital area which requires to be addressed and supported as part of our young people’s mental health and physical achievement. The resource delivered in Gaelic is massively important in many respects especially as the language is being used out with the formal classroom setting.”
He continued, “The Council is very keen to develop resources and initiatives to increase the use of, and participation in, sports activities where Gaelic is used in an informal setting within an everyday natural environment, and also linking to the national issues which young people are facing due to the global pandemic. I also wish to thank Bòrd na Gàidhig for their financial support and indeed the Council support in relation to supporting and managing this innovative project.
The benefits of emotional health and well-being, physical exercise and outdoors play are well documented, and these videos are an innovative, active way to involve pupils. This is particularly welcome during the current Covid-19 pandemic as it provides Gaelic medium teaching staff with an additional Gaelic resource.”
The Sonas Slàinte videos build on the success of a series of earlier videos produced by FC Sonas, when they were commissioned by The Highland Council to produce 6 weekly videos over lockdown.
They were distributed to 22 schools throughout the Highland area during the COVID-19 lockdown. The videos set weekly football challenges for the whole family to take part in and the only equipment required was a football and some basic household items.
The lockdown video series was followed by FC Sonas’s first outdoor Gaelic Medium football camp. Adhering to Scottish Football Association and Government guidelines the camp was held during the school holidays from 19 – 21 October at the Bught Park in Inverness.
FC Sonas co-founder Calum Ferguson said, “We are delighted to launch Sonas Slàinte, this new health and wellbeing resource aims to use football as a tool to engage Gaelic Medium pupils with the importance of a healthy lifestyle. We feel in the current circumstances it is particularly important to look after both physical and mental health, we hope that this resource can be a new and valuable asset for Gaelic Medium schools across the Highlands.”
Daibhidh Boag, Director of Language Planning and Community Developments: “Bòrd na Gàidhlig is delighted to be able to support FC Sonas once more through our funding to Highland Council. As well as the positive health and well-being impacts, the videos will act as a valuable resource for young people, encouraging them to use Gaelic more often through their participation in sport and in turn in their homes and communities.”
