Mey Highland Games Secures Major Sponsorship Deal With Nuclear Decommissioning Authority
2nd August 2019
The Mey Highland Games has agreed received a major sponsorship package totalling £15k with from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), the executive non-departmental public body responsible for the safe clean-up of the UK's earliest nuclear sites. NDA is a major contributor to the economy of Caithness, which is home to Dounreay, and Mey Highland Games is the latest local organisation to benefit from NDA support.
Mey Highland Games will this year introduce a special new award in honour of the NDA's role as the main sponsor of the 2019 Games. The top placed athletes in the Men's, Ladies' and Adaptive sections of the Games will be presented with a special trophy bowl created by North Lands Creative, the contemporary glass art gallery and studio based in Lybster, Caithness.
Each award will be presented by NDA Chief Executive David Peattie at the Games, which take place at John O’Groats Show Ground on Saturday 3 August for 10am.
Mey Highland Games Chair Cllr Andrew Sinclair said: ‘The Mey Highland Games celebrate the unique talent and culture of the far north, and as one of the biggest employers and contributors to Caithness life it is fitting to have the NDA as our main sponsor and partner at this year’s Games. As a registered charity we reinvest profits from the Games back into local good causes, and the support of the NDA and our other many sponsors are fundamental to our ability to deliver this benefit to the community. We are very grateful for their support, and really looking forward to presenting the first NDA Award at this year’s Games. Our thanks must also go to North Lands Creative for the beautiful trophy bowls they have kindly donated. We can’t wait to see which of our talented athletes will claim the top prize on Saturday!’
David Peattie, NDA’s Chief Executive said: "Embracing equality, diversity and inclusion across sport will serve to further inspire athletes to perform at their best - just as it inspires others in society. It is these principles that the NDA group holds at its heart.
"We are committed to investing in the communities which surround our sites and the Mey Games are an example of huge significance to the local Caithness community."
