Summer League 2002 - Week 5 Report

2nd June 2002

Whether due to the heat or the long Jubilee Weekend, the 5th round of the Monday Night Tenpin League bought yet another crop of good scores with last week's nine 200+ games topped by one this week.

In match one, Papa's Kids played Hitmen & Her and between them managed to produce half of the night's 200+ totals. Papa's Kids sub Nicole Hough played a solid three games to gross 589 pins including 207 and 217 games, and Cliff Bell also put in a 205 in the 2nd to assist his 558 series. Meanwhile Geoff Simpson finished with a 222 to take his total to 554 and help the team achieve a superb 3rd game score of 801 pins. Hitmen & Her, while unable to match the high scores (excepting Garry Ross with a 201 in the 3rd game), still managed to hit good series' with 576, 563 and 550 totals for Roddy Bremner, Garry Ross and Ally Gray respectively. In an close match overall, it was fitting that the scores reflect that, with Hitmen & Her running out 10 to 9 winners.

Another sub led Wasters to a 13 - 7 victory over Gutterlevel as the latter put in a lacklustre performance, with only Kenny MacAlpine hitting a decent 2nd game with 205 pins. Wasters took full advantage of this with the help of sub Don Mackenzie who, for the second week running, threw a 600+ series with games including a 208 and a 209.

In the late session Gowks played against the vacancy scores with the gents, Stan Ogrodnik and Ronnie Gray, leading the way with 214 and 212 games respectively. They also racked up total series' of 559 and 560 respectively to help the team to a 16 - 4 points win. Next week Ronnie will feel the brunt of his recent good performances as he drops no less than 15 pins from his handicap!

Wasters sub Donald Mackenzie was once again the highlight of the night with his 605 series.

Strange statistics from week 10 of the Monday Tenpin League include the number of splits gained and the relatively low scoring compared with previous weeks.  While many bowlers escaped with just a few splits, Hitmen & Her must have felt rather hard done by as they accumulated over a third of the total from the whole night.
