Summer League 2002 - Week 7 Report

16th June 2002

Despite the heat, week 7 of the Monday Night League provided yet more high scores and some very close games.

First up was Gowks versus Wasters. In the first game both Stan Ogrodnik for the former, and Denis Gallagher for the latter, opened with 213 and 205 games respectively to give Gowks the upper hand. Stan then hit a 228 whilst his wife, Barbara, bowled a 215 to again help Gowks take the majority of game's points. Wasters managed to pull back sufficiently in the final game to take their points to 9 to Gowks' 11.

In the second match Papa's Kids played Gutterlevel, with five of the points being decided by less than 5 pins. In game 1, Robin Clarke hit the night's high game (229) to help Gutterlevel to a 4 - 1 lead. Linda Clarke then threw a 209 in game 2 only to be piped by Papa's Kids' Fiona McLean with 218. However it was Gutterlevel's Dave McGillvray who ensured the teams' 14 - 6 win with a 2nd game of 223 and a third of 209 - despite Fiona equaling his 209 final game.

The final match bought Hitmen & Her to bear against the vacancy scores with the Hitmen sporting a blind score as a result of an injury. Without much trouble they acheived a 19 - 1 win with Ally Gray hitting a 201 in the 2nd game.

Top scores of the night came from Gowks' Stan Ogrodnik who bowled a 600 series including a 200 scratch game, and wife, Barbara, who hit 552 series. Wasters' Stuart Andrew managed 561 pins total while Fiona McLean trumped with a 590 series for Papa's Kids. Gutterlevel's Dave McGillvray bowled a 613 series and Robin Clarke a 571 series including a 212 scratch game.

With these results taken into account, the leader board shows Hitmen & Her building up a healthy lead of 16 points from Gutterlevel in 2nd place, but with only 10 points separating the 2nd to 5th place positions.

Strange statistics from week 10 of the Monday Tenpin League include the number of splits gained and the relatively low scoring compared with previous weeks.  While many bowlers escaped with just a few splits, Hitmen & Her must have felt rather hard done by as they accumulated over a third of the total from the whole night.
