The final round of the Blue Scottish Tarmac Championship was held at the old Second World War airfield at Crail, Fife. Bill & Sara Hamilton Travelled down to compete in their Opel Kadett 2000cc rally car. Due to work commitments Bill has not been able to compete in many rounds this year, even though they were still lying in 3rd in class 3 2000cc rally cars but this final round could see them being overtaking by 2 other competitors in both the drivers and navigators scoring.

A beautiful winter’s morning greeted the competitors but this changed to torrential rain mid morning which carried on into the afternoon. The organisers had created new stages for this event which went from wide open straights into tight chicanes and 90 deg corners. The day did not bode well for the Hamilton’s as they were struck from behind by another car on stage 1 causing damage to the rear arch , stage 2 they lost 30sec due to another car becoming stuck in a chicane, just when they thought their luck could not get any worse on stage 4 with the rain pouring down their intercom failed right on the start line, with no time to do anything about it Sara reverted to hand signals, (which might become a dance craze), stage 5 : they clouted some tyres resulting in more damage to the Kadett but finally they managed a finish, 27th overall 10th in class 3 but this was enough to secure 3rd in class in both the driver and navigator.

The event was won by Alistair & Colin Inglis in a Mitsubishi Evo 5 but the overall champion of the Blue Scottish Tarmac Championship 2013 was Ian & Kathryn Fogan in their Ford Ka 2000cc.

Bill and Sara Hamilton once again will be out in their Opel Kadett for the 2014 Championship which has new events and venues which means a lot of travelling for the pair and are currently looking for sponsor’s to assist with their consorted attempt to become next year’s champions
