Summer League 2002 - Week 10 Report

7th July 2002

Strange statistics from week 10 of the Monday Tenpin League include the number of splits gained and the relatively low scoring compared with previous weeks. While many bowlers escaped with just a few splits, Hitmen & Her must have felt rather hard done by as they accumulated over a third of the total from the whole night. In the scoring stakes only four 200+ games and two 550+ series' were achieved.

Hitmen & Her were playing Gutterlevel in match one and, despite some closely fought points throughout, it was Gutterlevel who came out on top gaining 14 point's to Hitmen's 6. The match between the two ladies was separated by 3 pins or less in every game. The only player to make the high score list from this meeting was Gutterlevel's Dave McGillvray with 220 and 212 pins in game 2 and 3, taking his total pins to the night's only 600+ series with 604.

The second match was between Gowks and Papa's Kids. Game one saw a real battle develop between Ronnie Gray of Gowks and the Kids' Cliff Bell, with the latter managing to pull ahead to win by 229 pins to 206. However, Gowks kept the upper hand in the first two games to come out overall winners by 12 points to 8. Only Cliff Bell managed a high series with 573 and will be rueing a split in the last frame of game two which denied him a 2nd 200+ game.

Wasters took on the vacancy scores in match three but, despite a good start with all the first game points being won, the team fell apart somewhat in the second and lost all bar one point. They fared a little better in the final game but still lost the majority of the points to finish the match ahead by 12 points to 8.

The league table shows that only 25 points separate the top and bottom teams of the league so, with 6 weeks to go, and 20 points per match up for grabs, the competition could still go to any team.
