Caithness Teams At Scottish Tarmac Championships
15th November 2011
On the 5th of November Crail Airfield hosted the final single stage rally of the Scottish Tarmac Championship, known as the Kingdom Stages and run by GMSC. Three Caithness Car Club crews travelled down to compete in this fast 44mile rally.
Mark and Vaila Morrison in their newly acquired Peugeot 106, Bill and Sara Hamilton in their trusty Opel Kadett and Euan MacKay with navigator Michelle Falconer in their Peugeot 106. The stages were fast but very slippery even though the weather was cold and dry.
Unfortunately 2 of the 3 crews were out of the rally by stage 4, Mark Morrison managed to complete 2 stages while Billy and Sara made one more before the engine decided to cry enough and dump its oil out at service. Both Billy and Sara were bitterly disappointed having moved from a start number of 33 to 8th overall.
Euan and Michelle went onto finish the rally setting two top nine times on stages five and six. They pushed hard for a well deserved seventh overall and third in class 3. Bruce Edwards won the rally in a Darrian , with Alan Brodie claiming the Scottish Tarmac Championship Award in his class 3 Ford Escort. Results can be found at www.gmsc.org.uk
