Caithness Amateur Sevens Football League - Week 15

Submitted by Ian Nicol

9th January 2002

First of all may I wish you all a happy new year

Now on to business

Week 15 of the RMC sponsored league and the headlines are:
Jags burst Pentlands title bubble.

Thurso Thistle all but ended Pentlands league challenge in yesterdays top match. Terry Cannop had opened the scoring for Thistle but John McLean equalised for Pentlands just before half time. In the second half Davie McGill restored Thistle's lead and then Peter
MacGreggor fired home to make it 3-1. Daryn MacKay pulled one back for Pentlands to put the game back in the melting pot. Thistle then scored the goal of the night through Terry Cannop who cracked the ball home on the half volley after a clever flick on from Alan Tait.

Earlier on Workshops continued to push leaders Ashes with a hard fought victory over a stuffy Co-op side. Jamie MacKay had give them the lead after only 2 minutes with a well taken goal and this seemed to settle them. However Co-op defended stoutly and were
unlucky on the break. A further goal from MacKay just before half time put a better complexion on the game for Workshops. In the second half there were chance aplenty for both sides but it was that man MacKay who went on to complete his hat trick and finish the scoring.

Crazy Gang failed to field a team against league leaders Ashes and as such Ashes are awarded the match 3-0 and Crazy Gang are fined £5

3 goals either half for Castletown destroyed Top Joes in the other 7 o'clock fixture. On target for Castletown were Sean Moodie with 1, Gary Calder with 2 and a man of the match hat trick for Stuart MacKenzie. This means Stuart moves to the top of the scoring charts due to Ashes Chris Dunnett's match not being played.

John O'Groats completed the matches last night with a thumping 7-2 victory over last seasons champs Acks. A hat trick from Greg Muir was the highlight as Groats hit top form.
Further goals by Sean Henstridge, a Wully Ross thunderbolt, Mark Robertson and Stuart Sinclair completed the scoring for Groats. A Colin MacDonald first half strike and a late consolation from Malcolm Morris were all Acks had to show for their nights performance
