Caithness Rythmic Gymnasts Compete In Aberdeen
5th April 2008
Seven Caithness Rhythmic Gymnasts travelled to the Danestone Community Centre Aberdeen in March 2008 to compete in the Annual Scottish Novice Rhythmic Competition. They were accompanied by Rhythmic Coaches Diane Gibson and Gemma Wares and many of their parents.
Although there are only 4 competing Rhythmic Clubs in Scotland, (Caithness is the only Gymnastics Club north of Aberdeen and the only club in Highland to offer Rhythmic Gymnastics) the competition was very fierce and the standard extremely high. With one of the largest number of competitors on record taking part, the Scottish Clubs were joined on this occasion by teams from Tenerife, England and Ireland.
Catriona McMillan and Hannah Dunbar competed in this competition for the very first time in the Under 9 age group; Catriona performed a really lovely, well executed and very controlled routine in what was a very large and difficult group. Hannah performed a lively dynamic routine in the same group and both girls did exceptionally well for their very first competition.
Laura Davidson and Caitlin Furniss were in the Under 10 category and both girls showed little signs of nerves in front of a large and appreciative crowd, again they were both competing in the very first competition and they both performed to the best of their ability with Caitlin just inching in front of Laura to earn herself a Bronze Medal, with Laura coming a very close 4th .
Ailidh Mackie competed in the Under 12 Category performing a ball routine and a Rope routine. Ailidh performed a fantastic, routine in the rope section and followed it up with a sparkling and dynamic performance with her ball, Ailidhs excellent execution of her routines and attention to detail earned her a well deserved Bronze Medal for her Ball and also an overall Bronze Medal in her age group.
Hanna Lalmahamode competed in the Senior (Over 14) category with a Rope and routine which was well executed and cleanly performed. Hannas lovely ribbon routine earned her a Bronze Medal and she also received Bronze for her rope and Overall Bronze in her age group.
Sine Hamilton also competed in the Senior (Over 14) category performing a very solid and enjoyable rope routine. Sine was very unlucky and just missed out on a medal to come 4th.
A very successful and exciting competition for the Caithness Rhythmic Gymnasts who all performed so very well with such a large number of competitors from other clubs.
