Search Begins for Women's Highland Games Competitors

2nd June 2007

The Tulloch Inverness Highland Games Committee has announced details of a special women-only Highland Games coaching clinic as entries open for the first women's championship at July's event.

Current Highland Games World Champion Ryan Vierra is coming from the USA to host the clinic with the assistance of Scottish Athletic Federation's Highland regional throwing coach Tracy Tamijmarane at Northern Meeting Park on the evening of Monday 18 June.

Games Committee Chairman Angus Dick said: "One of the major successes of the Masters World Championships that we hosted last year was the women's section. Following the announcement that we would be running a women's championship this year we have received a number of requests from women who are interested in trying the various Highland Games events and we are delighted to provide them with the opportunity to discover if they have got what it takes. The lighter equipment used in the women's classes in Highland Games means that we have a sport that we know that many women would discover they will really enjoy if they join us on 18 June."

Anyone interested in taking part in the coaching clinic in Northern Meeting Park on Monday 18 June is asked to contact Games Secretary Gerry Reynolds on 01463 724262 for further information. The clinic starts at 6pm.

The Highland Games will be held on Saturday-Sunday 21-22 July at the Bught Stadium.
