Have A Night With Rangers Legend Willie Henderson

29th November 2006

RANGERS legend Willie Henderson is coming to Caithness next weekend for a supporters' club function.

The former Ibrox winger, along with the high-profile Queen's Counsel Donald Findlay, will be appearing at a speakers' party night being held by Caithness Loyal Rangers Supporters in Mackay's Hotel, Wick, on Saturday, December 2.

Henderson, already inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame, was recently inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame as well.

Despite his diminutive stature and poor eyesight, Henderson became a stalwart of the Rangers sides of the 1960s and '70s, making a total of 462 appearances.

He won many domestic honours with the Glasgow club, although he missed out on the European Cup-Winners Cup' triumph in 1972.

Henderson won 29 caps for Scotland during the same period. He now runs a bar in Lanarkshire and is a well-known after-dinner speaker, relating stories of his footballing career.

Henderson will be joined in Caithness by Donald Findlay, distinguished QC and staunch Rangers supporter. He is noted for his outspoken style and, with his pipe and his mutton-chop sideburns, is one of the most recognisable legal professionals in the country. He has served two terms as Lord Rector of the University of St Andrews.

Caithness Loyal chairman Colin Banks says he is delighted to have secured the services of two such famous figures. He said: "When we were approached about the possibility of Willie Henderson and Donald Findlay coming north, we were very surprised but Mr Henderson stated his desire to visit an area where he knew a lot of Rangers and Scotland support existed and they would receive a very hospitable welcome. We expect a lot of laughs and a night of great entertainment."

The club is laying on a buffet and disco as part of the speakers' party night. Tickets cost 22 and are available by contacting Colin on 01955 606793 and Alan on 01847 821059.
