Highland Wake up Shake up fills Joe Wicks Gap

9th February 2021

Highland pupils have been joining ‘Wake Up Shake Up' sessions online on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, as part of the High Life Highland online support for local communities during the pandemic.

The movement and dance sessions are available to primary school age pupils with a Highland Google account, and are led by Amy Gallagher of High Life Highland. As all HLH locations are currently closed to visitors, this is just one of many ways that HLH staff have been finding to connect with people during lockdown 2.0.

High Life Highland's Amy Gallagher said: "We’ve been delighted with the response to the twice weekly ‘Wake up Shake Up’ sessions. Joe Wicks is on Monday Wednesday and Friday, so we fill the gap on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. We have had 150 households join us regularly and that following is growing each week. The feedback we’ve had from young people taking part has been very enthusiastic and we are really pleased to be able to do something to help our local communities during these strange times."

Pupils can join the sessions by logging in to their Google Classroom account and clicking on the link that appears just before the start time.

Robert Quigley, ICT in Learning Team for the Council said: "We knew from the first period of lockdown, how much Highland children loved their sessions with Amy so we were delighted that High Life Highland were able to get us once again, Waking Up and Shaking Up! Amy’s infectious personality and never-ending energy makes her sessions so enjoyable and appealing, as is seen with the high numbers of pupils joining the livestream each week!"
