Week One Of The RMC Sponsored League

Submitted by Ian Nicol

12th September 2002

Dounreay Workshops fired a warning shot across the bows of all the other teams with a fine 5-0 win over Castletown.
First half goals by Jamie McKay and Graeme Angus had them in easy street. In the second half Graham Carle made it 3 and a brace by Dougie Mackay made it 5. MacKay then blotted his copybook with a booking for deliberate hand ball and Donald Florence of Castletown also saw yellow.

Earlier Ashes defeated Dynamo TJ's 1-0 in a hard fought match. TJ's had by far the best of the first half and only brave goalkeeping by Manson kept them at bay. In the second half Ashes created the better of the chances and eventually scored through Graeme Roberson direct from a free kick. There were yellow cards for Andrew Lannon of Ashes for a trip and Don Rosie of TJ's for deliberate handball .

Young Guns started their league campaign with a fine 2-1 win over other league newcomers Arctic Thistle.
Wheeler McIntyre opened the scoring for Guns and Jamie McIntosh made it 2. Chris Williamson pulled a goal back for Thistle late on..

Acks faced the other league newcomers RWE NUKEM and defeated them 4-2. Daniel Mackay opened the scoring for RWE but Stevie Reid equalised before half time. Second half goals by Neil Murray and Des McLeod made it 3-1 to Acks before David Keith pulled one back with a smartly taken free kick to make it an interesting last couple of minutes. Colin MacDonald scored Acks fourth with the last kick of the ball. David Keith received a yellow card for tripping.

John O'Groats had a happy trip home with 3 points in the bag after defeating Top Joes 4-2. Goals form Mark Robinson, Mark Munro and Mark banks had them racing into a 3 nil lead before a George Sinclair double brought Joes right back into things. A second goal from Mark Munro calmed the frayed Groats nerves as the match closed.

Thurso Thistle had the best of things in tonight's last match against Sharks. An own goal by David McGilvery had Sharks reeling then Terry Cannop made it 2. Roddy Farmer hauled Sharks back into it with a crisply taken goal before Cannop made it 3. Jamie McGill rounded things of for Thistle with a snap shot to make it 4-1

Farmer of Sharks received a yellow for dissent
