Local project Get IT Together has been working with Reay Golf Club to help them become part of the digital world. The Get IT Together project aims to support local groups and individuals get online and become digitally included. Project Co-ordinator, Shona Munro has been helping the Club with their plans and aspirations of developing the club and clubhouse.

With support from Shona, the club has recently been successful in receiving a BT Community Connections Award which entitles them free wifi equipment and a year’s free broadband service. The new addition to the clubhouse allows the club to become digitally enabled and provides a free wifi facility for its users. Along with the immediate benefits to the club and its members, the committee wish to continue working with Get IT Together to provide free basic internet classes for both club members and the local community.

Shona is delighted to be working with Club, ‘it’s great to be working with the Golf Club, it means we can attract a new audience to the project and help get people online that may never have considered it before. Having another local facility which has wifi is also a fantastic resource for the community.’

Club Captain Graeme Dunnett is also pleased with the digital developments ‘We are always looking for ways to improve and develop the club. We like to offer our members as good a service and facility as we possibly can. Internet access is expected in public facilities nowadays and we are delighted that Reay Golf Club is now in a position to provide it.’ Graeme goes on to express his delight at the forthcoming internet training classes ‘we are happy to be able to assist and believe the classes could be of real benefit to some of our members and local community, it will hopefully encourage a few new people into the clubhouse and out onto the course as well’

Classes will run from the comfortable surroundings of the clubhouse and are open to anyone wishing to develop their online skills and gain some confidence using the internet. All classes will be free and are targeted at beginners to the internet.

Funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), with the support of BT Scotland and Highlife Highland, Get IT Together is run by a national charity 'Citizens Online'
.
