The Rhythmic Gymnastics section of Caithness Gymnastics Club recently held their 3rd annual display evening, to which parents, family and friends were invited. The members of the section performed a wide variety of group routines to a very appreciative audience.

Diane Gibson (Club Rhythmic Coach), Julia Mulvey, Gemma Wares, Sine Hamilton and Jane Sinclair (assistant coaches) coach the rhythmic gymnasts at Thurso High School gym once a week, with the club being the only one in the Highland region offering Rhythmic Gymnastics. Gemma and Sine recently passed their assistant coach exam and this is the first time that they have choreographed routines.

This was the very first opportunity for the beginner class to perform a group routine; each gymnast rose to the challenge and finished to rousing applause from the audience.

Ailidh Mackie and Hollie Mackintosh (two of the older and more experienced members of the section.) performed an excellent and exciting duet which they had totally planned themselves.

The audience were treated to a spectacular routine lasting just under 8 minutes originally performed by nine of the rhythmic gymnasts at the Scottish Gymfest in Irvine at the beginning of May, entitled ‘Girls,Girls,Girls’.

Sadly this was the last display for Sine Hamilton who has been with the section for over 8 years as she is going to Edinburgh University in September. As a special treat Sine performed a routine using clubs to everyone’s delight. Sine has promised to come back and coach during her breaks from Edinburgh University.

The dynamic programme proved a very big hit with those watching and it was an excellent display of Rhythmic Gymnastics which was enjoyed by all. Rhythmic Club Coach Diane Gibson said “All the gymnasts were fantastic; the atmosphere was brilliant, with such wonderful support from parents and families, what a wonderful way to round off our season”. “Although we are devastated to lose her we all wish Sine well with her future studies in Edinburgh”
