Caithness Sports Council: Coach Development Course

The Caithness Sports Council is organising a 2 day generic coaching processes course. The course is aimed at coaches (competition and recreational) involved in all sports who wish to develop their coaching skills. The course will cover topics such as

  • Types of learners
  • Performance Profiling
  • Motivation
  • Goal Setting
  • Self Confidence / self esteem
  • Anxiety
  • Concentration
  • Imagery
  • Feedback

Date: Saturday 10 March and Sunday 11 March 2007

Time: Both days (9am to 5pm)

Venue: To be confirmed (probably Halkirk)

Places are limited to 12 individuals

Cost: £25/individual (Caithness Sports Council Club Members)

The Caithness Sports Council is subsidising the cost of this course,
therefore grant aid applications from clubs will not be considered.

£50/individual (non Caithness Sports Council Club members)

Course Tutor: Jas Hepburn. He qualified as a PE teacher from Jordanhill College and studied Performance Psychology at Edinburgh University. He played rugby through school and college finishing with two years in the Scottish Colleges National team winning the British Colleges championship. Jas has also skied in the British Telemark Team for four years. He worked for 15 years at Glenmore Lodge, the National Outdoor Centre at Aviemore, running and developing skills and coaching courses for kayaking , mountaineering and skiing. He later worked at the Inverness College where he was lecturer in the sports development. Jas is currently a PE teacher at Milburn Academy and works part time for the Highland and Scottish Institutes of Sport as one of their strength and conditioning coaches, coaching promising and international athletes from the Highlands. He has worked with top Scottish athletes including Finlay Mickel (skiing) and Alan Baxter (skiing); Craig Mclean (cycling). Jas is passionate about physical & mental aspects of coaching for any ability or age of performer. Jas is also a tutor delivering courses for SportCoachUK.

Caithness Sports Council Awards Small Grants
Caithness Sports Council award small grants to Caithness sports groups under the following categories - Start-up, Excellence, Coaching, Travel.  In addition they may make discretionary awards.
