Thurso Synthetic Pitch Re-opened After Refurbishment

22nd November 2006

A synthetic sports pitch in Thurso has been re-opened for play by The Highland Council's Education, Culture and Sport Service.

Naver Pitch, which was first opened in 1996 was refurbished in early October this year when the sand was completely replaced and lines were repaired or replaced as necessary.

The £24,000 refurbishment works were carried out by Replay Maintenance of Newbridge, Midlothian.

The pitch is regularly used by local clubs and Thurso High School, mainly for playing football and hockey. Some of the recent users are: Thurso Youth Club, Celtic FC, Caithness Amateur Sevens Floodlight League, Caithness United, Top Joes, RG Football Club, and
Ashes Junior FC.

Local Highland Councillor Roger Saxon and Chairman of the Caithness Area Education, Culture and Sport Committee said: "I am delighted the Naver pitch has been refurbished and is back in operation. This pitch is well used by the community and this refurbishment shows the council is willing to act quickly to protect their investment. I would like to thank the council~s ECS project staff and our specialist contractor, Replay Maintenance for a job well done."
