Kayakers from the Pentland Canoe and Caithness Kayak Clubs attended a one day training course for the Scottish Canoe Association Canoeing Safety Test in Wick. The award is a pre-requisite for those wishing to become a kayak coach. During the course, the students were trained kayak safety features; hazards which maybe encountered on the water; life saving techniques and kayak rescue skills.

Anglers and Canoeists Unite to Fight Salmon Parasite Threat
The Association of Salmon Fishery Boards (ASFB) and Scottish Canoe Association (SCA) have made a joint call for tighter measures to prevent a deadly salmon parasite entering Scottish waters.  The two organisations hope that their unprecedented combined effort will lead to the introduction of a high profile campaign at ports and airports to raise awareness of the threat from the Gyrodactylus salaris (Gs) parasite.

Following a grant from the Awards For All Scotland programme, the Thurso based Pentland Canoe Club has taken delivery of 3 sea kayaks, 3 river kayaks and a double kayak.  The equipment was handed over to the Club by Tom Jackson, the Chairman of the Caithness Sports Council and a Director of Coaching Highland.

The weekend of 25 – 28 May 2007 will see around 250 sea kayakers from around the UK, America; Holland; Jersey; Ireland and France heading to the Isle of Skye to attend the 8th Scottish Sea Kayak Symposium.  The Symposium will be based at Sabhal Mor Ostaig, the Gaelic College on the Sleat peninsula.  
Funding for Kayaking in Thurso
The Thurso based Pentland Canoe Club has been awarded £5680 grant from the Awards For All Scotland programme which is supported by the Scottish Arts Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund.   This award will assist in the purchase of 3 sea kayaks, 3 river kayaks and a double kayak.

Three kayakers from the Thurso based Pentland Canoe Club have successfully passed their Scottish Canoe Association Coach Level 2 Award.   Simon Copsey, Andy Ford and Martyn Sutherland were assessed by one of Scotland's leading kayak coaches, Jas Hepburn from Speyside.

Three kayakers from the Thurso based Pentland Canoe Club have returned from a sea kayaking expedition in Southern Greenland.  The members of the team were Shona Comrie of Portskerra; Simon Copsey and Ken Nicol, both of Halkirk.

A photograph taken by Ken Nicol, from the Pentland Canoe Club, during a recent sea kayaking expedition has taken second prize in the annual Scottish Canoe Association's Touring Photo Competition.   The photograph was taken near Frederiksdal in South Greenland and shows fellow Club paddler Simon Copsey dwarfed by an iceberg.
