Summer League 2002 - Week 9 Report

As the Monday Night League entered the home straight, high scores were still being thrown and the evening air was filled with over 150 strikes.
In the first match Hitmen and Her were drawn against Papa's Kids with the first two games being very closely fought. The Kids came out 3 - 2 on top in game one, despite Hitmen's Kim Moore bowling a 209. Hitmen then reversed the points in the second game to put the team's level. However Papa's Kids took the bull by the horns in game three with help from a record-equalling 251 bowled by Keith Wilson. Kim then hit a 200 for Hitmen but that didn't stop Papa's Kids taking the honours with a final scoreline of 12 points to
8.
The match two bought together Wasters and Gutterlevel. It was the former who put their collective feet down in the first game with three 200+ pin scores from Stuart Andrew (201), Denis Gallagher (212) and sub Mark Whale (211). However, Mark's three strikes to finish the game were not enough to stop Gutterlevel's Linda Clarke from taking their individual point by just 4 pins with a 215 total - Wasters ending up winning by 3 points to 2. In the second, Gutterlevel managed a better display and took 4 of the 5 points while a close final game came out in favour of Wasters with another 3 - 2 point win, taking the overall points to 10 each.
Gowks were pitted against the vacancy scores in the final match and a poor first game saw them take just one point. This resulted in a resounding turnaround in the second with Ronnie Gray hitting a 209 and sub Ron Reid a 208. Ron then put away 201 pins in the final game and, with one overall individual point halved, Gowks had potted 14½ of the available 20 points.
Only Papa's Kids' Keith Wilson and Gowks' sub Ron Reid managed 200+ scratch games with a 217 and a 200 respectively. Keith also hit a 572 high series along with Hitmen's Kim Moore with a 573, and Gowks' sub Ron Reid with a 558. Finally, Wasters' Denis Gallagher hit a 591 and their sub Mark Whale got the night's highest missing a 600 total by just 5 pins.

Winter League 2002 - Week 1 Report
The start of the Monday Night Winter Tenpin League was a muted affair as uncertainty over the number of teams competing bought some confusion to the proceedings. Things were not helped by a new team, a number of member changes, missing team members, and the Secretary's minor blunder in providing incorrect handicaps for the early session bowlers! Whether due to the heat or the long Jubilee Weekend, the 5th round of the Monday Night Tenpin League bought yet another crop of good scores with last week's nine 200+ games topped by one this week. At the midway point of the Monday Night Summer League the recent run of high scoring games was smashed by a a three-game scratch series of 621 which is going to be difficult to beat. Strange statistics from week 10 of the Monday Tenpin League include the number of splits gained and the relatively low scoring compared with previous weeks. While many bowlers escaped with just a few splits, Hitmen & Her must have felt rather hard done by as they accumulated over a third of the total from the whole night.Search Our Site
